Crime Against Women ( Project 3 - Gurgaon Toastmaster )

Good evening everyone.

(crowd its morning ) oh I was just checking whether all of us are really awake or just pretending to be awake.
As you can see I have a ball in hand. I will throw this ball either in front of you or at backside of yours and you have to tell me where did I throw this ball..

Good you all are right and this mean all of you can see.

Now I will throw this steel glass and you have to tell me whether you can hear the sound or not.
Well you can hear the sound as well..

Now as it is confirmed that we all are awake, we all can see and we all can hear.

THEN WHY THE HELL WE ARE NOT RESPONDING WHEN IT COMES TO CRIME AGAINST WOMEN ?????????

According to figures released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), 92 women  raped in India every day, 4 in Delhi. Statistics have shown that there are 118866 no of cases of domestic violence are reported  in india each year.

And for your information equal no of cases are left unreported due to family pressure, societial pressure and what not.

And all this is taking place under our nose and what we are doing is ? just sleeping.

WE ARE NOT REALSING THAT IT IS OUR SILENCE WHICH IS CAUSING ALL THIS.

I AM SORRY TO SAY BUT THERE ARE 1000’S OF  DAMINI/ nirbhaya (JYOTI SINGH ) WHO SUFFERING THIS AND THAT IS JUST BECAUSE OF OUR SILENCE.

IT IS NOT THE RAPIST WHO IS THE MAIN CULPRIT OF RAPE BUT IT IS US “THE SOCIETY “ WHO IS equally RESPONSIBLE WHENEVER ANY SUCH KIND OF INCIDENCE TAKES PLACE….

WE ALL LIE WHEN WE SAY WE ARE AWAKE, WE LIE WHEN WE SAY WE CAN SEE AND WE LIE WHEN WE SAY WE CAN HEAR

INSTEAD THE REALITY IS WE ALL ARE SLEEPILNG , WE ALL ARE BLIND AND WE ALL ARE DEAF.

Now some of you may say that We all (and when I say we it includes me) go to india gate to protest against such heinous crime, we demand death of the rapist, we demand lowering down the age of juvenile from 18 to 16 years and then we think that we have done our part.

And if all that can be stopped by just inserting a provision in law then why is it happen till date when we have Indian penal code which was inacted in 1860 and contains the definition of rape and crime against women under section 375 from its inception.

I admire that govts are doing their role by making more stringent law or by recruiting marshalls in busses or by promising 15 lac cctvs.

But will not be that much better if we become proactive instead of reactive.

The time of 5 to 7 minutes allotted me will be of no use if I don’t tell that there is something that we can do.

1. Become intolerant.

There must be zero tolerance. For example   Imagine a male, aged 17, on the street with a group of pals. A cute young girl walks past, and he shouts something after her, say "Hi sexy !"

One of his pals, a 19 year old who he respects frowns at him. "Don't be an idiot. You're being embarrassing man, show a little respect won't you ?"

That's what it takes. Nothing more, and nothing less. Just zero tolerance.

2. We have to educate. Not just ourselves but to each and every member  of our society. And the time I say educate I am not referring to literacy but inculcating morals and ethics in mind of people around us.

we don't have to tell our daughters or sister how to dress but it is our responsibility to each our son and brother to not rape.

With this note I want all you to please stand up and take a pledge that we will all will be MARD
